Gates - Polycarbonate

A kind enough stranger asks you, “What do you do for a living?” It’s an honest question. Depending on the day, it could be landscaping, or taking off on a dream fishing trip with no return ticket. With no hint of sarcasm, you sheepishly grin and say, “I mostly fish.” It’s an honest answer.

Inspired by the Bahamian flat on the edge of the Gates of Hell where the water depth goes from 5 to 5,000 feet in seconds and bones and big tarpon prowl, this style is especially easy on the eyes. Our stronger bio-based nylon frame is also lighter, so you’ll barely notice it’s there. Bajío’s polarized lenses with proprietary LAPIS technology tames glare and fatiguing blue light transmission for ultimate visual clarity.

  • Medium fit
  • Medium 6-base wrap design
  • Generous non-slip rubber nose pads
  • Made from plant-based material that bio-degrades more easily and is gentler on our oceans; bio-based nylon is 10x stronger than petroleum-based plastic
  • Choice of 6 lens colors in both glass and polycarbonate
  • All lenses are polarized and include proprietary LAPIS technology that blocks blue light, making them the clearest lenses on the planet
  • Oleophobic lens coatings reduce scratching and make cleaning easier

Bajío lenses are polarized. They cut out the glare and allow you to see how amazing our waters really are. Polarization increases depth perception and contour so not only do you see things better in the water, but you also see things from further away when on the water. This is key technology for sight fishing.

Bajío’s polycarbonate lenses have oleophobic coating on both sides to shed oil and water, and resist smudging (the biggest culprits: sweat and sunscreen). This coating also increases the scratch resistance and extends the life of the lens.

All Bajío lenses block 95% of blue light up to 440 nm and the majority of intense yellow light at its peak of 580 nm. This means no more hazy days and no more color interference.

Bajio LAPIS™ technology uses proprietary techniques to filter out harsh
yellow light while virtually eliminating high energy blue light (bad blue) and allowing all the good blue light to reach your eye. We hear a lot about reducing blue light from computers, but the biggest producer of blue light is the sun. For those of us who spend more time on the water than in front of a screen, blocking the sun’s blue light is critical to our vision and our health. Using proprietary techniques, Bajío is able to improve lens clarity, reduce blur, glare and haze while enhancing color and protecting your eyes from harmful rays. Blocking 95% of high energy blue light up to 445 nm, Bajío sunglasses block more of the bad blue light than any other brand on the market.

If impact resistance and light weight are most important to you, pick polycarbonate.

If visual clarity and scratch resistance are the most important to you, pick glass.

Without sacrificing performance, we are driving the change from traditional materials to greener options. We consciously partner with factories who follow this ethos—those who are powered by renewable energy, self-sustaining, carbon neutral, and zero waste.

When it comes to packaging, why wouldn’t we use recycled paper? Using 100% recycled instead of 100% virgin fiber paper saves 100% of the trees, uses 69% less energy, uses 47% less water, and creates 39% less solid waste.
